19世紀末のアメリカで生まれたこのスタイルは、船乗りや兵士たちの間で広まった。港町の片隅にあるタトゥーショップで、荒削りな線と鮮やかな色彩で刻まれた絵——それがオールドスクールの原点だ。
特徴は明快だ。太くはっきりしたアウトライン。赤、緑、黄色、青の限られた色使い。シンプルでありながら力強いモチーフ。パンサー、イーグル、スワロー、ローズ、アンカー、ハート——これらはすべてオールドスクールの定番モチーフだ。
それぞれに意味がある。スワローは故郷への帰還。アンカーは安定と希望。パンサーは強さと自由。人々は自分の信念や願いを、この太い線と鮮やかな色に込めてきた。
100年以上経った今も、オールドスクールが廃れない理由はシンプルだ。シンプルで力強いデザインは時代を超える。流行に左右されない美学がある。

Tattooing has many styles. Realism, Japanese, New School — but the oldest and most enduring of them all is American Traditional, also known as Old School.
Born in late 19th century America, this style spread among sailors and soldiers. In tattoo shops tucked into port towns, bold lines and vivid colors were pressed into skin. That’s where Old School began.
The defining characteristics are simple. Thick, clean outlines. A limited palette — red, green, yellow, blue. Bold, straightforward motifs. Panthers, eagles, swallows, roses, anchors, hearts — these are the icons of Old School tattooing.
Each one carries meaning. The swallow symbolizes a safe return home. The anchor represents stability and hope. The panther stands for strength and freedom. For generations, people have used these images to carry their beliefs and wishes on their skin.
More than a hundred years later, Old School hasn’t faded. The reason is simple. Bold, clean design transcends time. It doesn’t chase trends. It has its own aesthetic that stands on its own.
